About This Course
Topics include covered in this Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry (Top-Up) course include:
terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
use of equipment relevant to a door supervisor
actions to take in relation to global
(or critical) incidents
physical interventions and the implications of their use
the risks associated with using physical intervention.
To complete this qualification learners will be expected to undertake mandatory self-study activities prior to the course. Self Study is part of this qualification.
Prior to the course start date, you will be required to complete the following distance learning activities:
Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry ( self-study 2hrs),
Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry( self-study 2 hours),
Physical intervention skills training (knowledge and practical)
COURSE STRUCTURE & CONTENT
Our SIA Door Supervisor courses consist of four parts:
Part 1: Distance learning – self-study prior to the course start date
Part 2: Theoretical knowledge – classroom based
Part 3: Practical Assessment – classroom based
Part 4: Multiple choice examination – classroom based
The course is made of four mandatory units:

- Know the main characteristics and purposes of the Private Security Industry
- Understand legislation as it applies to a security operative
- Understand arrest procedures relevant to security operatives
- Understand the importance of safe working practices
- Understand fire procedures in the workplace
- Understand emergencies and the importance of emergency procedures
- Understand how to communicate effectively as a security operative
- Understand record keeping relevant to the role of the security operative
- Understand terror threats and the role of the security operative in the event of a threat
- Understand how to keep vulnerable people safe
- Understand good practice for post incident management
Unit 2: Principles of working as a door supervisor in the private security industry
Unit 3 : Application of conflict management in the private security industry
Unit 4: Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry
COURSE PRE REQUISITES
ASSESSMENT & EXAMINATION
Unit 1 – Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry you will be expected to answer 10 multiple choice examination questions (20 minutes). Pass mark = 70%
Unit 2 – Principles of Using Equipment as a Door Supervisor in the Private Security Industry you will be expected to answer 5 multiple choice examination questions (10 minutes). Pass mark = 70%.
Unit 3 – Application of conflict management in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 20 multiple choice questions with a duration of 30 minutes and a pass mark of 14 questions.
Practical assessment: observation of using communications devices. Pass mark – 100%.
For Unit 3 – Application of physical intervention skills in the private security industry you will be expected to answer 30 multiple choice examination questions (45 minutes). Pass mark = 80%.
Practical assessment: observation of each learner performing every technique with an observation sheet and Q/A session to cover critical areas of PI knowledge.
