The Emergency First Aid at Work course is suited for individuals stepping into the role of an emergency first-aider in the workplace. This one-day course meets the criteria outlined in both the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982.

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is divided into three main parts:

Part 1: Theoretical knowledge – delivered via e-learning. Prior to attending the training venue, you will receive a link to the Highfield e-learning modules, which you will need to complete individually.

Navigate through the e-learning materials and immerse yourself in the real-life scenarios provided.
At the end of the e-learning course, your understanding will be evaluated through a set of multiple-choice questions.

Part 2: Practical activities – the practical content of the qualification will be delivered and assessed in person at the training centre.

Part 3: Multiple-choice examination.

Topics include:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a first-aider
  • Importance of recording incidents and actions
  • Use of equipment, including Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Administrating first aid to a choking casualty
  • Dealing with casualties with fractures, and spinal, head or chest injuries
  • Basic hygiene and preventing cross infection
  • Treatment of an unconscious casualty
  • Dealing with hypovolaemic shock
  • Dealing with wounds and bleeding
  • Dealing with minor injuries, including small cuts, grazes, bruises and small splinters
  • Dealing with minor burns and scalds
  • Dealing with choking
  • Dealing with seizures

All candidates must be 14+ years of age.

In order to complete the e-learning, candidates will need access to the internet, tablet, PC or laptop.

This qualification is assessed in two ways:

Theoretical Assessment – E-assessment: Learners will need to respond to a set of questions and achieve a passing score in each element of the theoretical assessment. Results will be available immeditaly after the e-assessment. Upon successfully completing the Emergency First Aid qualification, you will receive an e-certificate.

Practical Assessment: The practical assessment takes place continuously during the course. Throughout this evaluation, learners are expected to demonstrate their capability in providing appropriate assistance to a casualty, managing the situation effectively, and seeking the necessary aid when required.

Our pass rate at M.I.S is over 96% and we have a policy of NO PASS – RETAKE THE EXAM FOR FREE, so if you fail your exams, there is no charge for 2 retakes. E-Assessment results will be made available on the day of the e-assessment.
